- Hello, I'm An Introvert
Networking. The word alone sends shivers down us introverts' spines. Would you believe that your speaker (the biggest introvert ever!) once DREADED networking? Then it became my job, and I eventually grew to enjoy it!
Yes, ENJOY it! This is my goal for YOU, too. Connections are crucial for your career growth. So, what is an introvert to do? We'll cover how to best prepare for both scheduled events and impromptu opportunities, and what exactly you should be doing during and after these conversations.
NOTE: "Hello, I'm An Introvert" best suits an interactive format (i.e. Workshop, Luncheon/Dinner) to provide live practice and feedback opportunities for attendees.
- Top Candidates In Today's World Of Work
With each job opening attracting 250 applicants on average, how are YOU going to be the top, successful candidate? Standing out in a sea of candidates is no easy feat. And if you're relying on even a stellar resume to get your foot in the door, just know to expect a success rate of only 10%.
So, what does it really take to be a top candidate? We'll discuss how you can truly grab the attention and consideration of the hiring committee, as well as my top networking, resume, and interviewing tips.
- Please Pass The Offer
Conversations over a meal with key stakeholders are a common component of the hiring and college admissions process. While you may be tempted to relax a little too much during mealtime, know that your words and actions are still being noted. The formal interview may have concluded, but the evaluation of you as a candidate continues!
Suddenly not feeling hungry? We'll get your nerves calmed and appetite back as we brush up on etiquette, the unwritten "rules" of dining, and meal interviewing expectations.
NOTE: "Please Pass The Offer" is an interactive meal etiquette presentation that best suits a luncheon/dinner format for demonstration purposes and live practice opportunities for attendees.
- High School Grads: What's Next?!
Where are you headed, soon-to-be grad? I bet I'm not the only one asking you this question. And if you're anything like 18-year-old me, this question prompts anxiety and results in a somewhat vague answer. You don't need the whole rest of your life planned out, but you should have a compatible path in mind to pursue after graduation.
"I'm going to college." For what, exactly? What do you plan on doing with your degree? This topic is for college-bound high school juniors and/or seniors who would love to have solid answers for these questions, and desire more clarity on their best-fit college major and post-graduate career plans.
- College Grads: What's Next?!
The work world awaits! Excited? Overwhelmed?! Feeling like you need your whole life and career planned out? Maybe your peers are already getting job offers and seem to know exactly what they want to do for the next 10+ years. Just know that it's completely normal to feel the opposite!
Work-bound, soon-to-be college grads, don't fret! One step at a time. We'll focus on identifying your potential career paths and choosing the best fit for your FIRST job. From there, we'll cover how you can achieve that first job with my most effective and efficient job offer-generating techniques.
- Grad School: To Go, Or Not To Go?
And sometimes it's not a question of if, but when? Many factors come into play, and you want to make sure that you arrive at the best decision possible regarding such a substantial investment of your time and money.
So, should you go now, wait, or rest on your Bachelor's degree for the career you ultimately desire? Your speaker is not here to persuade you to go one way or the other. What we will do is journey through the decision process together, as well as discuss the best ways to find and apply to your top program choices when the time is right.
Note: "Grad School: To Go, Or Not To Go?" can be geared towards Graduate or Professional school, or both.
- Your Resume: Alive & Well?
As you pursue your career aspirations, you're constantly changing and growing- So, shouldn't your resume? One thing's for sure, this document should not collect digital (or literal) dust and need to be revived just in time for an application deadline! So, what's the current status of your "living" marketing tool? Does it need a few additions, a format revamp, or complete overhaul?
My goal is for you to remain relevant and up to date in your next job search or admissions process (and as a TOP candidate, of course!). Together, we'll cover the resume from top to bottom and piece by piece to ensure yours is up to speed, as well as discuss how and when to make several types of changes to your document in the future.
Note: "Your Resume: Alive & Well?" best suits a workshop format with attendees being able to edit their resumes in real time. This topic can be geared towards creating new resumes or editing existing resumes.
- Conquering The Hot Seat
Ah, the interview. Perhaps the most nerve-racking component of the job search or admissions process. Now it's time to communicate who you are, what you know, what you're seeking, and how you see yourself as a great fit for the position or program, all in the most clear and concise way possible. Sounds easy, right? Unfortunately, most candidates struggle to convey these to the best of their abilities.
Do you struggle with nerves, "marketing" yourself, or ensuring you're adequately prepared for the hot seat? A good majority of candidates do! I aim for you to not be one of them! I'll equip you to confidently rise up out of the candidate pool with my best preparation strategies and interviewing techniques to be considered as a TOP candidate. We'll also cover how to properly thank and follow-up with the hiring or admissions committee post-interview.
Note: "Conquering The Hot Seat" best suits a workshop format to provide live practice and feedback opportunities for attendees.
- Getting In With LinkedIn
In today's world, most networking takes place via technology with a majority of recruiters expecting to find out more about you online. When you have a professional online presence to go along with your resume and application, you're able to better demonstrate your talents, experience, and personality, while also receiving a closer look from the hiring or admissions committee.
Are you on the world's #1 professional networking site? If so, have you been making the most of it? First, we'll ensure your LinkedIn profile represents you well and attracts key connections and opportunities that get you closer to the jobs or programs you desire. Beyond this, we'll discuss how to take advantage of certain features on LinkedIn to proactively network and perform most of your job or program search in one, convenient spot.
Note: "Getting In With LinkedIn" best suits a workshop format with attendees being able to use LinkedIn in real time. For the profile portion, this topic can be geared towards creating new profiles or editing existing profiles.
- Calm Those Nerves: Mastering Public Speaking
As much as 75% of the population fears public speaking. So, isn't it wonderful for us to know that nearly ALL career paths and college programs require you to do it? UGH!! That was my thought early on in both college and my career. My nerves would get the best of me, I'd sweat and shake like crazy, and I'd miss important points as I was racing to be done!
Since I was forced to teach myself the art of public speaking, I'm well prepared to guide you through it and even help you ENJOY the spotlight! We'll go through my top tips, preparation strategies, and specific techniques that will allow you to speak clearly, exude confidence, and connect with your audience of any size.
Note: "Calm Those Nerves: Mastering Public Speaking" best suits a workshop format to provide live practice and feedback opportunities for attendees.
- Working With Your Team MBTI Type
Personality dynamics can make or break a team. This doesn't mean that success and positive relationships can only happen when all team members think and act alike. Thoroughly understanding and learning how to work together with individual strengths, weaknesses, and differences (AND, a healthy dose of respect!) will deliver optimal results and a sense of cohesiveness.
The MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)* is one of the world's most popular personality assessments and is typically used for self-awareness and individual improvement. Combining each team member's MBTI results, we'll reveal the team's overall unique type and discuss what this truly means in terms of team functionality and development. So, get ready to really know each other and how you can best work together as a team!
Note: "Working With Your Team MBTI Type" requires all attendees to complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator self-assessment at least two weeks before the session/workshop. This topic is only available in the Workshop, Training, and Retreat Session formats.
*Heather Masters is a Certified MBTI Practitioner with years of experience in facilitating individual and group-style interpretations.
